More Power For Volkswagen e-Golf

Added: 22 November 2016

The famous Los Angeles Motor Show was held this month and there was exciting news revealed from Volkswagen in the form of the e-Golf model receiving an increased power boost and updated range.

The new version of the all electric Golf model joins the latest version of the new Golf which was recently revealed and also features an updated look with the closed off front end featuring a stripe which runs into the LED headlights and new C-shaped daytime running lights built into the front bumper.

Step to the rear of the new e-Golf and you’ll be met with an updated bumper design, animated indicator lights, LED taillights as well as a new brake light design. As well as the aesthetic changes to bring the all electric hatchback in line with its petrol and diesel equivalents the range of the model has been improved significantly up to 186 miles which is around a 50% increase on the distance the current model can achieve as well as a power output increase of around 20bhp making the output of the new model 134bhp. As a result torque has also improved up to 290Nm which is around 20Nm increase on the current model.

The increase in power and distance has not come at a cost to the power consumption as the improvements in distance have come from the utilisation of larger batteries. Inside the all new e-Golf a very futuristic looking all-digital instrument display has been integrated and offers gesture control for the infotainment system. As well as this online ‘e-remote’ services have been made standard and this allows drivers to remotely control air-conditioning as well as stop/start electric charging.

All important safety systems have also been further improved on the new e-Golf with emergency assist, traffic jam assist and forward pedestrian monitoring all integrated to help keep you safer on the road. Expected to be launched early next year the new e-Golf is likely to start at around £32,000 before the inclusion of the government plug-in car grant.
