Volkswagen Launch New Crafter

Added: 02 October 2016

Volkswagen have lifted the lid off their new Crafter at a brand event.  The latest Crafter is set to raise the bar in an extra-competitive large-van market that will see it challenge the likes of the Ford Transit, Fiat Ducato and Mercedes Sprinter.  The latest addition to the Crafter family will boast a selection of super-efficient 2.0 litre diesel engines and even offer the option of four wheel-drive should you require it.
Having shared a platform and body with its rival (the Mercedes Sprinter) previously, the latest version will see the Crafter adopt its own unique platform.  Volkswagen have equipped the Crafter with all its highest spec technology and the van will be built at VW’s brand new Crafter-specific factory in Poland.
Up front the Crafter will appear similar to the rest of the Volkswagen van family, with a similar face which flows fluidly into the boxier shape required for a van of its versatility and practicality.
Tucked underneath the exterior is a range of Euro6 compliant, efficient VW engines that are symptomatic of our vans.  The familiar 2.0 litre diesel engine will be available in four levels of output: 100bhp, 120bhp, 138bhp and a bi-turbo 175bhp.

Volkswagen have also set the barrier when it comes to aerodynamics as the Crafter becomes the lowest dragging vehicle in its class, which help it in both fuel economy and emissions.
The Crafter will be available as either an automatic or manual gearbox whilst you can also choose from front, rear or 4MOTION four-wheel drive.  Prospective buyers will also be able to choose from three lengths and three heights which means you can adapt the Crafter to your load needs.  The entry-model load bay should be similar to the outgoing Crafter which will see it in around the 2,600mm whilst the width will be roughly 1,300mm.  As with all VW vans, there will be a selection of specific body types made available for those of you with more niche needs.
Volkswagen’s research and development team have also ensured that the latest Crafter edition is packed full of the latest safety technology including power steering, ESP with trailer stabilisation, adaptive cruise control and side-wind assistance to ensure the smoothest and safest drive possible.  A reversing camera has been fitted as well as parking sensors to ensure the trickiest of manoeuvres is now a breeze.
Volkswagen have yet to officially reveal any news regarding the latest Crafter’s pricings, however, orders are expected to open in the very near future so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for all the latest updates, or get in touch with the Heritage Volkswagen team who are always on hand to answer any of your motoring questions.
