Benefits of Electric

There are many benefits to owning an electric car. Here are just some of them:

Zero emissions

Electric cars have zero tailpipe emissions and some are even being manufactured with net zero emissions.

Cheaper running costs

Electric cars are cheaper on average to own than their petrol or diesel equivalents. Savings on electric cars are mostly down to their lower average annual running costs. With some electricity suppliers offering electric car tariffs with lower overnight costs.

Plus, electric cars traditionally have a longer life span and require less maintenance, which could result in even bigger savings.

Less frequent servicing

Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts compared with a combustion engine.

The drive train of an electric car has around 20 parts or less, compared with up to 2,000 in a combustion engine. Therefore they need less maintenance to keep the parts running. 

Easy to charge

The average car spends 80% of its time parked at home. The simplest way to charge your vehicle is to install a home wall box to enable the battery to be charged overnight.

For longer journeys, there are now thousands of public charging points across the UK and new ones being added very day.

Road Tax (VED) savings

Fully electric cars are currently exempt from paying VED. 

Plug-in hybrids (less than 51/km of CO2) are currently exempt from paying first year VED. Plug-in hybrids pay a reduced rate for subsequent years.¹

Better driving experience

Electric cars have more responsive acceleration and regenerative braking, as well as improved handling due to their lower centre of gravity.

They are also very quiet giving a peaceful, comfortable driving experience.

Clean Air Zones

The low or zero emissions from electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will mean lower charges in the Clean Air Zones being implemented in many UK cities and the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London.

Benefits for business and company car drivers

Company Car Drivers receive lower Benefit in Kind (BiK) on plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. 

Drivers of electric vehicles do not incur a BiK charge for electricity used at work to charge their car.
